Hinton Coal Branch Archives is part of the Archives Society of Alberta database

Hinton Archives background

Hinton Coal Branch Archives was added to the Library as part of renovations in 2007. Special considerations include environmental controls, supervised access and a research area.

"The mandate of the Hinton Coal Branch Archives is to promote and encourage the appreciation and study of the history of Hinton and surrounding area by acquiring, preserving and making accessible to the public, records in any format which reflect the history of this area."

Services

  • Photocopies and scanning services are available upon request. The local newspaper, the "Hinton Parklander" is available on microfilm from 1955-2005.
  • Reference services - reference inquiries are welcome in person, by telephone, fax, post or email. Please include your name, phone number and a detailed description of your inquiry.
  • Genealogy - are you looking for family history? We have put together a page of Research Tools that might assist you in your research.

Archive hours

As of March 13, 2020, access to archival material will be available by research request and mediated by archival staff until further notice. We will gladly assist you with your research needs. Please phone to speak to an archive staff member.

About our holdings

Our holdings consist of personal and business papers, diaries, memoirs, photographs (negatives, prints, albums), local artwork, VHS tapes, clipping files, maps and a reference library with historic books (some by local authors).
